This past weekend saw promotion confirmed on Saturday for the Sharks and on Sunday, a league title for the Women’s 1st XI. Also on Saturday a draw away at 2nd place Sunbury all but guaranteed the 3rd XI their league title.

The Women played 3rd place Ickenham at Fieldview with the league title to be decided via points average and with second place Hayes still very much in contention. A strong all round performance saw the visitors restricted to 138/8 off 40 overs, with Spencer junior girls, sisters Mya & Anjali Ketan and Maia Lough all taking wickets. The total was knocked off in 27 overs, Ellie Barker being 50 not out at the end. With Hayes’ game being rain impacted, they were unable to climb into top spot and the Womens Cricket Southern League Championship comes to Spencer. This should mean promotion back to the top Premiership division for 2022.

Meanwhile, the Sharks, a Saturday team that was only founded 5 years ago confirmed that next year they will be playing in the top division of the Surrey Cricket League. The team, based at Fishponds, unlike the other Saturday teams does not play in the Surrey Championship, is something of an extra 3rd XI side, enabling more Spencer members to play at a higher level. The SCL also features more local teams than the Championship generally playing a more attacking style which provides a different experience. Many congratulations to captain and Spencer veteran Saqib Sindhu and his team.
