A big thank you to Savills

Not only was 2022 our 150th anniversary, but it was year one of the club playing primarily in coloured kit.

And as the anniversary approached and with the increasing need to change the habit of not just a lifetime but of generations, and change our of the old ‘white shirt and flannels’, the question was how?

With the financial impact of Covid still being felt, how do you get over 1,600 players to change in one go and not end up in a multiyear period of a horrible mishmash transition of colours that would make one of David Seaman’s old goalkeeping tops look easy on the eye?

Step forward Savills – whose generous new three year sponsorship deal with the club enabled us to give each member a new kit, shirt and trousers for free.

So we’re very grateful for this support and, possibly unusually in sponsorship deals, thought it right to thank those who made it possible, principally Robin Chatwin, head of Savills south west London region and Nicky Chambers who heads up the regions lettings team. Making it simpler, as Robin says, they both knew what they were getting into:

‘I, like many others at Savills have personal experience of the club, taking our children there to compete throughout their school years and beyond. My son progressed through from U7’s and is now Academy age and Nicky’s daughters are current members. Spencer Cricket Club plays a hugely important role within the local community and has nurtured those of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to enjoy and play the sport. To be partnered with the club and support its incredible 150 year history while working with the local communities that we all live an operate in, outside of the 9-5, is a privilege.’

And as we look back on the first year of cricketing colour at Spencer, with already some amazing photos to mark the change, including our Girls U14 representing us in national finals, on behalf of the club, we say thank you to Robin, Nicky and all at Savills for making this possible.
